With a Mediterranean climate, it enjoys an average of 300 days of sunshine each year. Tourism is 'gentle'. The geography is varied, in half an hour you can drive from the vineyard covered plains of the Minervois to the mountains of the Corbičres with hilltop Cathar castles guarding small villages.
You can have as busy or as relaxed a holiday as you choose. Montpellier and Perpignan to the east and Toulouse to the west are large cities and only about 90 minutes away.

From the south-facing terrace, there is a wonderful view of the garden and the village lake. There you will find tables and chairs, where we will serve your meals, if it’s not too hot!
For sun lovers, there are sun beds around the pool. In the middle of the pool, which is 1m 35 deep,there is an island with a palm tree.
The south-facing garden is well stocked with lavender, palms, olive trees and other mediterranean plants; one pond; and plenty of space to enjoy a leisurely stroll or just to sit and enjoy the surroundings.
The house overlooks a lake which is well stocked with fish, including carp, only two minutes walk from the house. If you prefer other sports, we also have a petanque pitch.

The owner assure you that your gite will be clean and ready for you upon arrival. We are on hand to help sort out any questions or problems which may arise. Upon arrival you will find the beds made up, hot water available, cold drinks in the fridge and a bottle of wine, and if you like a tea or coffee I'm happy to prepare it for you. All bed linen, towels and tea towels are provided.
For a longer walk there are a lot of footpaths in the farmland and forests around us.
The countryside is wild but easily accessible. Top grade trout streams rush down forested mountainsides into rivers where kayakers paddle. Waymarked walking trails lead to 3000 metres peaks where isards (chamois), marmots and even bears roam. Cyclists can take in a stage of the Tour de France, mountain bike down tracks or gently pedal in the valleys.
Maison Tranquille is situated on the edge of a quiet hamlet, 7 km from the circular village Alaigne, 15 km from the Market town Mirepoix, 30 km from the Medieval town of Carcassonne, and 20 km from Limoux. 1h15 from the beach and ski resort.
Our closest town Mirepiox is in the Ariege, situated in the heart of the Cathare region, it’s a charming medieval town it will delight you with its rich heritage, its scenery and the whole range of activities it has to offer, among others the populaire monday market who offers everything from chikens, wine, vegetables, cheese to flowers, art and crafts.
