Between the Pyrenees and the Gascogne, 45 Kms from Tarbes and 40 from Auch, Castelnau is a rural village in the north of the Hautes-Pyrénées. The village is built on a hill, 314m. High. The church , of gothic art, was built in the XIIIth century and is located in the village center. Rugby plays an important role in Castelnau where the president of the club is the priest in charge of the parish.. The agriculture in the area is mainly based on cereals and the breeding of sheep and cows.
The people enjoy picking up mushrooms in the forests next to Castelnau, fishing the trout, and hunting some game in winter.. In the area, prehistoric art can be found in several caves , as well as some Roman remainings..
The nearest mountain is the Vallée d”Aure. The valley and its surroundings are said to be the most representative of the charms of the Pyrenees.
